Through Ideation Station, Steven Miller and Moriah Shay are creating a Mobile Innovation Lab equipped with tools, machinery, and activities to help get underrepresented students in Corvallis, Oregon interested in STEM-related fields. Ideation Station will encourage women, minority, and rural students to build an interest in STEM education and careers, and will enable them to participate in the STEM landscape. Recently, the venture reported that its Monroe High School pilot program taught 10 eager high school students STEM for 10 weeks. Not only did the program see attendance grow over time, but students wanted to start their own business using the makerspace equipment, leading to the development of another 10-week program on how to launch a microenterprise.
