Taku Machirori is a senior at accounting major at Morehouse College from Harare, Zimbabwe. He considers himself to be an unabashed optimist with a passion for global leadership and social entrepreneurship. He came to the United States in 2010 and in 2012 graduated valedictorian with an AA in business administration from Merritt College, in Oakland California and consequently accepted a scholarship to Morehouse College. Having experienced the lack of global tertiary education opportunities and career advisement while in high school in Zimbabwe, in December 2012 along with fellow Morehouse students he founded emerginationafrica.org. Emergination Africa is an innovative e-mentoring organization developed to encourage dialogue and inspire possibilities among African high school students to attend university through weekly online video calls and live panel sessions with U.S. college students and professionals. Withstanding the pressures of running a global organization Taku maintained high grades and in 2013 he was awarded a Morehouse Top Scholar 4.0 award and received a service award from the San Francisco National Association of Black Accountants for his work with Emergination Africa.
