BIO

Prudence is a student at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in political science. She is an outspoken individual, aspiring to be a diplomat and shift narratives that hinder women from taking up leadership roles in her hyper-patriarchal country, Kenya. As a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, she believes that collective input from the Africans themselves is what will steer the continent’s development to greater heights. For her, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars community at Edinburgh is one key platform for such a collective approach towards Africa’s development. Alongside two other scholars, Prudence is a co-founder of Linda Initiative which is a social venture that aims to ensure zero teenage pregnancies in Kenya through a private, safe, and relevant shortcode (message system) system. Through this initiative, Prudence and her colleagues have created a platform free of stigma, where the youth can be educated on issues of sexual and reproductive health.
