In 2015, Wandile founded the Ubuntu Design Group to provide sustainable improvements in the living and community conditions of shantytown residents in Durban. Using local materials and labor as well as community sweat equity, Wandile and his team are building half-houses that leave room for further creative construction. The half-house will create a sense of community pride and ownership, while teaching the community about the importance and power of environmental sustainability.

As of spring 2018, the team successfully ran its first pilot program, training the community to build a house for a family that will also be used as a daycare center.
