This engineering student has devised a distributed electric metering and management system through plug-in devices for individual homes. These plugs provide customers the appliance-by-appliance real-time information to reduce their energy costs by shifting their usage to off-peak times, powered by a mobile app. These devices would reduce the load on the grid, flatten the demand curve, save families money, and build resilience into a power system that would also eventually be less often forced to turn on additional (potentially environmentally-damaging) power plants at peak times.
