We’re very excited to welcome our first two Social Venture Challenge winners of this decade! Mary and Daniel pitched their ideas to us at the African Leadership Academy SVC on January 3-4, 2020. Read more about their ventures here:
Mary Maker is the founder of Kakuma Thrives, a two-week camp that will offer young people in the Kakuma refugee camp the opportunity to learn about sexual health, marriage, consent, and safety. The young people will then utilize what they learned to produce dramas based on their own stories that will educate and begin to destigmatize sexual health in their community in a fun, educational, and engaging way!
Daniel Deng founded Peace Power South Sudan, a two week camp in Juba, South Sudan, that organizes, informs, and supports South Sudanese youth through peace education in order to develop socially conscious leaders. Peace Power South Sudan will also be growing their community network to connect program graduates to high impact educational opportunities across the African continent and around the world.
