BIO

Born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, Whitney Wood completed her undergraduate degree in English and American Literature and Language at Harvard (’05) and went on to complete a Masters in the Teaching of English at Teachers College Columbia University (’10). She has begun her seventh year teaching middle school English at Harlem Academy, an independent school where she now also serves as the Humanities Curriculum Coordinator. The school’s innovative curriculum features partnerships she developed with The Poetry Society of America and the Classic Stage Company. Additionally, Whitney’s work has included building reading intervention programming, designing character development curriculum, and mentoring student teachers. Before joining the team at Harlem Academy, Whitney worked with The Student Press Initiative to help GED students in the Bronx publish oral histories.
