James O’Brien is the director of Content Strategy and Development at Verve. He joined the advertising-technology company’s New York office following nearly a decade in the independent sector as a freelance journalist and a specialist in the branded-content space. His work at Verve has developed the organization’s executives’ voices and made them regular features in Forbes, Adweek, Ad Age, Adexchanger, Street Fight, MediaPost, and GeoMarketing, among other publications. Previously, his work helped shape the brand voices of organizations including Samsung, Microsoft, Xerox, IBM, Coca-Cola, Toyota, Mashable, and Skift. James has also consulted on content for teams at DreamWorks and Microsoft. He is active as a ghostwriter and bylined contributor for social-cause organizations. James holds a PhD in editorial studies; his dissertation focuses on unpublished writings by Bob Dylan.
