BIO

Red is a fourth-generation Fort Worth native who attended Fort Worth Public Schools and Trinity Valley School, graduating from Paschal High in 1972. During his junior year in college, Red left school and began what would be a 12-year career in the jewelry business as a partner, gemologist, jewelry designer, and estate appraiser in his family business, Goldstein Brothers Jewelers, a fixture in downtown Fort Worth since the 1890’s. In 1987, Merrill Lynch recruited Red to their financial advisor program where he excelled and became one of the firm’s top producers in short order. Early in his career, he found that financial planning was his calling and soon found himself as the creator and developer of the firm’s nationwide program that delivered financial planning services to executives in several Fortune 500® companies.  In 1993, he was selected as a coach in the corporate coaching program of Merrill Lynch, a position he held for ten years.  In 1996, the firm awarded the title of Portfolio Manager to Red when he became one of the firm’s first advisors responsible for discretionary investment management. In 2001, the firm’s trust company awarded Red recognition as a Trust Portfolio Manager, a distinction earned by less than 1% of the firm’s portfolio managers. In 2009, Red and his two business partners at Merrill Lynch, Stephen Kaye and Adam Deem, founded Teak Tree Capital Management, LLC, in Fort Worth, a registered investment adviser (RIA) specializing in financial planning and asset management. Red semi-retired from the firm in late 2013 and continues to serve on the firm’s investment committee and as chief compliance officer.
