BIO

Mathew is a 2nd-year electrical engineering student at the University of British Columbia in Canada. He was born and raised in Kenya. Mathew is fluent in Swahili, English, and French. While attending Alliance High School which is the best public national school in Kenya with students from every single district, Mathew co-founded a Peace Club. The club was to empower his school mates to promote peace in their day-to-day activities in order to prevent a repeat of the political and ethnic violence that had happened a few years earlier. Mathew is passionate about improving education in marginalized communities and creating healthier and sustainable sources of energy for people in his community. In addition to Soma, Mathew has also founded Kentradr, a virtual trading platform to teach financial literacy to Kenyan youth and to introduce them to the Nairobi Stock Exchange. He hopes to use this to tackle the unemployment scourge among Kenyan youth
