Juan is from a rural Mopan Maya community, called San José Village, in the south of Belize and currently an undergraduate student at EARTH University in Costa Rica studying Agricultural Science and Natural Resource Management. After secondary school, he spent two years working with the Toledo Cacao Growers Association (TCGA), a non-profit organization devoted to sustainable cacao farming practices. The two-year experience as a project coordinator working with rural families instilled in him the passion of helping others. He has volunteered with a number of non-governmental organizations related to youth leadership, recognition of rights and equality and socioeconomic development of farming families. Giving back through social and innovative projects involving youth can fulfill his dreams of impacting the lives of many unprivileged young individuals and channeling through to their families economic transformation, informed citizens and stimulate constructive development within their communities.
