Calista is a rising senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Accountancy and Data Science with a passion for UI/UX design. She is a team member of Jila, a student-led social venture dedicated to reducing language barriers for Q’anjob’al-speaking immigrants in the Champaign-Urbana area. Through a mobile app that provides short, domain-specific instructional videos translated into Q’anjob’al, Jila empowers community members with the tools they need to navigate daily life—covering topics like transportation, legal documentation, and healthcare access. Calista contributes to the development, outreach, and user experience strategy of the app, helping ensure the platform remains intuitive, culturally sensitive, and community-centered. She currently works as an Operations Liaison for Jila, facilitating partnerships and metrics tracking to support the app’s growth and impact. Calista is passionate about combining technology, design, and social good to build scalable, inclusive solutions for underserved communities.
