Addis Sustainable Life (ASL) is a campus-sustainability program and a small recycling start-up founded by Nahom Zeleke and Abiy Shimelis; two young entrepreneurs from Addis Ababa University. ASL markets biodegradable products, engages volunteers in creative campus waste management and executes campus sustainability campaigns for Addis Ababa University. In partnership with a small local business, ASL designs and distributes handmade - biodegradable products made from wastepaper and traditional raw materials called “kacha” and “enset”. ASL blends Ethiopian traditional skills with contemporary designs to produce aesthetic paper products, available for international and online markets. Nahom and Abiy encourage local institutions and private companies to use eco-friendly products while adding aesthetic value to their business.
