Katie leads Root Capital’s impact evaluation program, designing and overseeing the implementation of mixed-method studies to identify Root Capital’s impact on our clients and the impact of our clients on farmer households and communities. Katie supervises a global team that implements these studies in Latin America and Africa, and is responsible for communicating the findings of these studies internally and externally. In addition, she works on developing and growing strategic partnerships that present opportunities for us to scale our growth and impact. Prior to joining Root Capital, Katie conducted and oversaw evaluations of an array of international development projects around the globe with Harvard’s Center for International Development and Mathematica Policy Research. Before that, she led policy and advocacy and developed partnerships for an agricultural finance and development initiative to build smallholder climate resilience in Senegal and Ethiopia with Oxfam America, and helped launch a social enterprise (Instiglio) based in Colombia that aims to improve public services through innovative results-based financing. Katie has also spent significant time working in Colombia on issues related to children affected by the armed conflict. She consulted for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Bogotá and also worked with the Colombian government’s reintegration program for ex-combatants to evaluate the impact of the program on demobilized child soldiers’ social and economic well-being. Katie holds BAs in Spanish and Political Science from the University of Kansas, and an MPP from Harvard.
