Tasman Bain is Co-Founder and Deputy Director of Meri Toksave (a youth-led women’s rights NGO in Papua New Guinea). He is passionate about human rights, international development, gender equality, mental health and youth empowerment and has over 5 years experience across NGOs, social enterprise, and government service.

Tasman first visited PNG when he was 16 in 2009 to hike the Kokoda Track and participate in a development project with highland villages. With Ayesha and Courtney, he co-founded Meri Toksave to prevent and eliminate violence against women in PNG.

Tas has served as a national security policy intern with the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department (2014-2015) and a human rights intern with the Australian Mission to the United Nations in New York (2015).

He is studying social sciences with interests in conflict/security/development/gender at the University of Queensland. He was the Deputy Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations (2014), a UNICEF Young Ambassador (2013-2014), and the Convenor of the UN Youth Queensland Regional Road Trip (2012-2013). He also debated at the World Model United Nations (2013) and World Universities Debating Championship (2012).

He is a keen distance runner and pianist and was a Queensland Young Australian of the Year Award Finalist (2016).
