Bio

Rachel is a student at UNC-Asheville where she plays on the women’s basketball team as a full scholarship Division I athlete. Ms. McGirt is involved in several student organizations at UNC-Asheville and is the President of the UNC-Asheville chapter of Healthy Girls Save The World. She helped to found Healthy Girls Save The World with her older sister Camille McGirt. She is majoring in political science and minoring in Africana studies. Rachel is very interested in international studies and has high hopes of joining the Peace Corp after graduating from college. Going through her own account with childhood obesity has made her want to tell her story to young girls. She believes that being healthy is more than just how you look. It's truly living out the three pillars of Healthy Girls Save The World, having a healthy body, a healthy mind, and participating in healthy relationships. Her interests include writing; meeting new people, and staying active through sports and physical activity EVERYDAY!
